SAINT EUPHRASIA: THE PRAYING MOTHER

Euphrasiamma (Rosa) is a carmelite saint, who was born as the eldest daughter of Eluvathingal Cherpukaren Anthony Kunjethy couples on 17 October 1877 at Kattur village which was in the undivided Trichur diocese (now in the diocese of Irinjalakuda). She was baptized in October 25, 1877 at Mount Carmel Forane Parish at Edathiruthy. She had three brothers and a younger sister, who died in early childhood.
Even in the midst of all good circumstances of the family, little Rosa’s heart desired only God. She offered her virginity to God at the age of 9. After overcoming many obstacles, by the grace of God she joined the Boarding of the Kerala Carmelite Congregation in Koonammavu. In those days the Koonammavu boarding was the only place of virtue where the girls who desire religious life.
